About Us

Carter Cattle & Stockdogs is owned by Brett, Lacey, Grady, and Hudson Carter. They are located in south central Oklahoma in the rural town of Stratford. Brett and Lacey were married in 2004.  Brett grew up on a purebred cow/calf operation in Madill, Ok where his family raises and exhibits Maine-Anjou cattle. A 2003 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a BS in Animal Science, Brett spent the next 10 years managing DJ's Cattle Company in Bartlesville, Ok.  DJ's Cattle was a purebred Maine-Anjou ranch that became one of the elite breeders of Maine-Anjou cattle in the industry. Brett was honored to be selected by his peers as the 2010 Maine-Anjou Herdsman of the year. "We achieved many goals while at DJ's Cattle Company and were blessed to have bred and raised numerous champions in the show ring, but the people and friendships we built along the way are our true blessings".
In February 2012, Brett and Lacey were faced with a huge decision. A long time family friend and customer, Dr. Robert Morton, was starting a new ranch and was in need of a manager. The decision was made and Stratford is were they hang their hat now. Morton Farms has grown from 20+ cows and 200 acres of farm ground to 300+ cows and 800 acres of farm ground. Focusing on raising Maine-Anjou breeding cattle and producing high quality Alfalfa is the daily agenda. "It is sure a pleasure to work for someone who is as enthusiastic about purebred cattle and farm production as Dr. Morton is. It sure makes a guy give it his all."
Lacey is a 2005 graduate of Southwest Oklahoma State University with a BS in Business Administration. Since moving to Stratford in 2012, she has become a homemaker and enjoys substitute teaching when needed. She enjoys raising the boys (all 3 of them!!!), is very involved within the community, active in their church, and  loves spending time on the ranch. Grady and Hudson are active boys to say the least!! Both boys love the outdoors and can be found with dad on the ranch most of the time. They especially like calving season and the show barn. "Nothing in life is more important to us than raising our boys in agricultural. We think nothing prepares a young mind for life's journey as responsibilities on a ranch do. We are very fortunate to have a 1500 acre ranch as a backyard."
The dogs are a big part of the Carter's everyday lives. Brett took interest in the dogs while on the ranch to help out. They say you can't have just one Dorito and that must apply to stockdogs!! Good dogs are a lifesaver around the ranch and not until recently have they started to compete at trials with them.
"Competition is something that we enjoy in the purebred cattle business. We have met some of our best friends through competition and I see no reason that can't happen in the stockdog business, but make no mistake about it we want to win!!"
Rain, Baby Calves, Good Dogs, and Visitors are welcome ANYTIME!!
